Our mission

The aim of the project is to operate a social enterprise delivering social, economic and environmental benefits through the recovery of resources from post-consumer bulky goods. Providing employment and training, diverting waste from landfill and recycling and reusing materials towards a more circular economy.

Boomerang Enterprises is a social enterprise recycling project based in Ballyvolane, Cork set-up in 2014. Currently the project recovers post-consumer mattresses and beds from retailers, accommodation providers and Civic Amenity Sites which are deconstructed and the component materials segregated for recycling and re-use with residual materials used for Waste to Energy.

Boomerang provides local employment for a Project Manager and long-term unemployed from the local community. Boomerang provides for the up-skilling and training of its employees, while researching means for greater re-use and recycling opportunities for the residual fabrics. The project is managed by Cork Environment Forum and supported by the EPA, the Southern Waste Regional Office, Cork City Council, Cork County Council, SMILE Resource Exchange, Cork City Partnership, the Health Action Zone and community members.

The Cork Environment Forum is registered as a charity with the Revenue Commissioners (CHY 16288) in Ireland.

Boomerang Enterprises provides a completely traceable, sustainable, dismantling and recycling of mattresses. The mattresses are deconstructed and stripped down. The materials are sorted in their various component parts. The Boomerang project is working on new ways to recycle component parts of mattresses, particularly the textiles which range from horsehair, to foam, polyester and cotton. We accept mattresses from business clients from both public and private organisations.
