Welcome to our bi-weekly ‘CRNI Member News’ roundup, where we celebrate the incredible work happening across our network of community-based organisations dedicated to reuse, repair, and recycling activities all around Ireland.  Every two weeks, we will spotlight key achievements and inspiring stories from our members, showcasing how their efforts are making a tangible difference in creating more sustainable and resilient communities. From innovative repair workshops to creative upcycling, these highlights not only demonstrate the power of local action but also serve as inspiration for us all. Join us as we dive into the latest successes and continue to support each other to achieve our vision is for an Ireland where the word ‘waste’ doesn’t exist and where our entire community benefits from the social, environmental and economic value of all reusable resources.

TOG Hackspace- Repair Cafe in a box

Tog Hackerspace has received a grant for a first of it’s kind “Repair Café in a Box,” funded by the Government’s Climate Action Fund through the Community Climate Action Programme.

“Repair Café in a Box” will offer a set of tools and equipment to community groups who can borrow the kit for free to hold their own repair cafe events. This kit will include commonly used tools and signage, all packed in easy-to-carry cases. The goal is to help communities get started with repair events by providing the tools they need. We’ll share more details soon on how your group can borrow these tools and start hosting your own repair events.

TOG hackerspace is a based in Dublin City. It is a shared space where members can have a place to be creative and work on their projects in an environment that is both inspiring and supportive of both new and old technologies.

RWN Cycle Up- at the RDC Dublin Horse Show

After winning the RDS Rural Social Impact award, Cycle Up are taking their upcycled products to the RDC Dublin Horse Show this week! On from Aug 14- 18, you can check out their stand in the concert hall area plus they are joined by fellow social/ circular enterprise Change Clothes Crumlin! You can follow their journey at the RDS all week on our social media stories.

CycleUp, is an environmental and training social enterprise in Roscommon which addresses the issue of textile waste through a community development approach to environmental protection, supporting the hardest to reach women and families to engage.

Relove Fashion IS GOING NATIONAL!

Powered by the Rediscovery Centre, Relove Fashion is a Sustainable Fashion competition NOW OPEN to young people of secondary school age NATIONWIDE, across the Republic of Ireland. Relove Fashion gives young people the amazing opportunity to create their very own sustainable outfit, to explore their creative design skills, to learn all about repurposing, upcycling, altering and repair! They will also learn about the impacts of the fashion industry as the competition was developed in response to the devastating environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry, the need for change, and the recognition of young people’s pivotal role in shaping innovative solutions.

Rediscovery Centre is the National Centre for a Circular Economy in Ballymun, Dublin. Since 2004, the centre has been leading Ireland’s transition to a circular economy and low-carbon, sustainable future.

Too Good To Go Ireland are one of the new Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Champions for 2024-2025

The SDG Champions Programme, spearheaded by the Irish government, has appointed 20 new organisations from across Irish society to become Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Champions. Appointed as part of the 2024-2025 SDG Champions Programme, the chosen organisations will help raise awareness of the importance of the SDGs as a roadmap for a safer, fairer, more prosperous and sustainable future for all, that leaves no-one behind. Amoungst 90 applicants,Too Good To Go Ireland is one of 20 organisations selected for this year’s programme. Check out the full list of this year’s champions.

Too Good To Go is a certified B Corp social impact company, on a mission to inspire and empower everyone to fight food waste together.

Foodcloud’s Reducing Food Waste in the Home’ online course

Foodcloud in collaboration with the EPA has launch a free 3 week online course, certified with an Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Digital Badge. This course has been proudly created under the FoodCloud Academy’s ‘Thrive Together’ Project, and funded by the Department of Environment, Climate, and Communications’. Learn about the problem surrounding food waste, how you can reduce food waste at home and how you can go beyond your home to help your community.

You can access all the ATU free courses from the link below, you will find our new course “Reducing Food Waste in the Home” under the environmental section. You will need to register on the ATU website first and then can access the course!

Green + Social Virtual Trade Fair

CRNI’s Green + Social Virtual Trade Fair is funded by Ireland’s Regional Waste Management Plan Offices. This innovative virtual platform is open 24/7 and gives visitors the opportunity to explore green and social procurement opportunities provided by reuse, repair and recycling social enterprises and community-based organisations across Ireland.
