Community Resources Network Ireland (CRNI) has submitted its response to the public consultation on the Bioeconomy Strategy 2026-2030.

Developing the Irish bioeconomy has huge potential for sustainability. Realising that potential will depend on building in circularity from the outset, and on harnessing the potential of social enterprises and community-based organisations. Among other recommendations, CRNI’s submission calls for:

  • Clear policy alignment between the Bioeconomy Strategy and the Whole of Government Circular Economy Strategy;
  • Recognition of community-based and social enterprises as key actors in extending product lifetimes, reducing waste generation and creating local employment, across the wider economy and the bioeconomy; and
  • A public procurement system that actively promotes reused, repaired and remanufactured bio-based products alongside sustainable bio-based innovation.
