Buíon Phort Láirge - A Repair Café initiative with local groups

Buíon Phort Láirge is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led Local Development Company (LDC) that delivers programmes and services that meet the needs of local communities and improves the quality of life for the people of Waterford City and county. Buíon Phort Láirge programmes and services cover areas such as rural development & community development, addressing food poverty, employment training & access, education & personal development opportunities, start your own business / social enterprise and climate action. A core remit is to support communities and social & circular enterprises.

The organisation hosts a Repair Café initiative with local groups, associations and communities in Waterford to support practical ways to reduce waste, repair goods, and build skills. Skilled volunteers help fix everyday household goods such as small household items, clothing, bicycles, toys, and digital or software issues, while sharing practical repair skills with visitors. Buíon Phort Lairge aims to develop a scalable Repair Café model, to explore accredited skills-sharing workshops, and pilot other circular activities such as a library of things, to promote sustainability, reduce waste, and strengthen community connections by encouraging a culture of reuse & repair in Waterford.
