Kingdom Furniture Revamp – Sales Triple

In January, Kingdom Furniture Revamp opened their first main street retail store in an iconic market building dating back to 1747 in CastleIsland, Co Kerry. Eugene Glover, Manager of the project under NEWKD, says sales have tripled since the move from their Crageens premises, their 12 staff – who are employed through a Community Service Program funded by Pobal with other staff coming from Tus and CE shemes – have gained confidence and retail skills, and that the main challenge is keeping up with the outgoing stock.

The main goals of Kingdom Furniture Revamp are to supply and upcycle quality products at competitive prices. The project has been running under North East and West Kerry Development company for 8 years, providing job and training opportunities to people from the travelling community in an integrated workforce. The store is supplied from a warehouse where furniture is upcycled and restored, and stocks a broad range of products from furniture and beds to typewriters and CDs. One of the most unusual items sold was a saddle for a camel. As quoted in the Kerryman newspaper, if you can sell a saddle for a camel in Castleisland, you can sell anything.

The shop will hold a launch event in the coming weeks but in the meantime, CRNI would encourage anyone in the Kerry or Cork region to drop in and admire the quality goods in this historic location.
